We take responsibility for our environmental impact and commit to continually improve our environmental performance. We focus our efforts on our operations, our products, and our supply chain.
We have committed to setting science-based emissions reduction targets, and thereby joined leading companies around the world in setting targets in line with what climate science deems necessary to limit global warming to 1.5°C. We have developed and submitted our targets to The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for validation. Our targets are both near-term (2030) and Net-Zero (2050).
Our efforts contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production and Goal 13 on Climate Action.

Our Operations

We meet our carbon neutral target for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, representing mobile fuel, stationary fuel, and electricity and heating, by:
- Working on improving energy efficiency
- Changing from fossil fuel to electric company car
- Sourcing electricity from renewable energy sources
- Offsetting remaining emissions by supporting certified emissions reduction projects according to the highest market standards
Össur’s largest manufacturing, distribution and clinics sites have a certified environmental management system according to ISO 14001:2015, and our environmental compliance obligations are both legal requirements and voluntary initiatives.

Responsible environmental management does not only apply to manufacturing and logistics, but also to what companies place on the market in the form of products and services. Throughout a product development phase, multiple decisions are taken that can affect the environmental impact of the company such as raw material choice, manufacturing methods, supply chain set-up and the choice of packaging methods and materials. Within Össur’s R&D department, the Environmentally Sustainable Solution project aims to reduce the environmental impacts of Össur’s products and packaging.

We are aware that most of our emissions come from our supply chain. Therefore, we have established Össur Supplier Sustainability program where we reach out to our key suppliers with the aim of engaging them in our sustainability journey. We encourage them to take action in reducing their emissions, which eventually results in less emissions in our supply chain.
