Marlene van Gansewinkel

Professional athlete in Long Jump, 100m and 200m and as well as studying Human Health at Hague University of Applied Sciences, Marlene is also a co-founder of the Para Athletics Foundation. Born without her lower leg and forearm, Marlene was first discovered in 2013 by national coach Guido Bonsen at the Paralympic Talent Day and later that year went on to make her 100m debut at the world championships in Lyon, where she came seventh, in a personal record of 14.32.

Since then Marlene has gone from strength to strength with a number of medals, national records and world championships. In 2016 she qualified for the Paralympic Games where she won a bronze medal in the long jump. At the European Championships in Berlin in 2018, she won gold twice in the 100m and 200m and silver in the long jump and is officially the world record holder for 100m. In her spare time Marlene likes to train, meet up with friends and shop.
