According to Medicare, a brace may be provided to the patient via shipping service.

All documentation requirements, including a Standard Written Order (SWO), medical documentation, and corroborating documentation supporting medical necessity must be in the records. The item can then be shipped to the patient with the following Proof of Delivery (POD) requirements.

The Proof of Delivery must include:

  • Patient’s Name
  • Delivery Address
  • Delivery services tracking number
  • Description of item delivered
  • Quantity of item delivered
  • Evidence of delivery

The Date of Service (DOS) on the claim may be the shipping date or the actual date of service.
