On November 11, the DME MACs published a joint announcement on coding guidance for upper extremity terminal devices that was an edit to the previous guidance 


The DME MACs published a joint announcement on coding guidance for upper extremity terminal devices. 

In addition to considering L6881, Automatic grasp feature, addition to upper limb electric prosthetic terminal device, as unbundling the revision now includes L6882- microprocessor control feature, in the unbundling category. 

What Does This Mean for You?

Check the HCPCS codes you use on a claim for any UE prosthesis. Specifically, if you are using HCPCS L6882. When providing an articulating digit hand, L6880, the use of L6882 cannot be used as an addition code as it is considering inclusive to the base code of the hand.
