What You Need to Know

CMS has suspended one of the 8 DMEPOS accreditation organizations - BOC - from accrediting/reaccrediting DMEPOS suppliers for 3 years in the following states: California, Florida, New York, and Texas. The move comes on the heels of a government investigation into and conviction of a former BOC contractor who admitted to taking bribes as a site inspector. He also formed multiple DME companies while masking his own identity, inspected the companies himself, and then sold them to third parties.

 What this Means for You

Accreditation is a requirement for participation in the DMEPOS program to receive payment from Medicare. All DMEPOS suppliers must get reaccredited every 3 years.

If you are a BOC-accredited facility operating in CA, FL, NY, or TX, you will need to get reaccredited by a different accreditation agency as long as this suspension is in force. CMS's decision does not impact existing accreditations issued by BOC or reaccreditation in any other states than those listed above.

BOC has stated that it is working closely with CMS and hopes to regain accreditation authority in these 4 states earlier than the 3-year period originally set by CMS.
