Upper Extremity Novel Muscle Transfer for Independent Digit Control of a Partial Hand Myoelectric Prosthesis: The Starfish Procedure
Thursday, July 11, 2024 | 9 - 10 AM PDT
Dr. Glenn Gaston and Dr. Bryan Loeffler established The OrthoCarolina Reconstructive Center for Lost Limbs in 2016, a multidisciplinary amputee clinic. They developed “The Starfish Procedure” which enabled the first ever myoelectric partial hand prosthesis allowing intuitive, individual finger control. They have performed a high volume of Starfish procedures for upper limb amputees and are actively performing and presenting clinical research on these topics.
Please join us to learn more about an overview of The Starfish surgical procedure for partial hand amputations, patient indications, surgical technique, and application of Starfish for enhanced myoelectric prosthetic control.
