Fellowship program


The Össur Orthopaedic Fellowship Program is a 12 month academic program designed to enhance the clinical, surgical, and research skills of orthopaedic/musculoskeletal healthcare specialists. Institutions/clinical practices wishing to apply for a Fellowship should follow the following application guidelines.

Application deadlines


Applications will be reviewed by the Össur  Research/Fellowship Advisory Board. Decisions will be made by the first of the month following the deadlines:

  • February 15
  • May 15
  • August 15
  • November 15

Applications should include name, credentials, title, full contact information of person submitting application, and Not For Profit Tax ID Number of institution requesting the grant.

Application criteria


Fellowship Director must be full time employee of institution/practice, with administrative/supervisory responsibilities.  Include current CV of Director.

Fellow must be currently licensed orthopaedic surgeon, BOC certified, state licensed athletic trainer or other credentialed musculoskeletal healthcare specialist.

Fellowship Curriculum must be ACGME accredited (for orthopaedic fellows) and include clinical, surgical, rehabilitation, casting/bracing, and research components. Program description and detailed curriculum, with specific learning objectives and performance measures must be submitted with application.

Fellow Research Project must be identified and presented in a one page research proposal included with application. Proposal should include hypothesis, population to be studied, specific research design, methodology and statistical analysis to be utilized.

Research should focus on lower extremity biomechanics, ortho biologics, dynamic/active rehabilitation, functional bracing, clinical/quality of life patient outcomes, and related health care economic studies. Quarterly research status reports will be required. A final written research report is required at the completion of the Fellowship, including preliminary results, and plans for continued study, peer review manuscript submission, and abstract submission.

Fellowship Sponsor Oversight will be conducted by the Össur Manager of Fellowships.
