What is the Difference Between and LCD and Policy Article?

Posted by Linda Collins | November 13, 2018

A Local Coverage Determination (LCD) is a published document outlining the reasonable and necessary language. The LCD provides the condition of coverage for specific DMEPOS items. Each LCD has an associated Policy Article. The Policy Article provides information about coding and payment.

When reviewing Medicare coverage guidelines, be sure to always view both the LCD and associated Policy Article. You may search for the appropriate documents at the Medicare Coverage Database or the DME MACs.
