L5845 Audit Issue Removed from Performant's Website

Posted by David McGill | May 01, 2017

Performant added Audit Issue 0049 to its website in mid-April. The audit focused on L5845, an add-on code that describes the stance flexion feature in mechanical knees. More specifically, Performant unilaterally declared L5845 incompatible with a range of other knee codes, despite the fact that neither the LCD for lower limb prostheses nor any other coding authority has ever restricted L5845's use with any of the codes Performant listed.

Today, Performant removed the issue from its website without explanation or any other comment.

What does this mean for you?

The significance of Performant taking issue 0049 off of its website is not clear at this time, though it is an encouraging sign. Based upon our research, product analysis, and understanding of the relevant issues, Össur has always believed that (a) the implicit coverage/coding determinations made by Performant were incorrect, and (b) outside the scope of its authority.

We will continue to monitor this issue closely and provide you further updates as more information becomes available.
