Mobility Clinic 2018
The 2018 Mobility Clinic was held on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th April in Adelaide, South Australia. Across both days, we saw over 100 attendees travel from around Australia to join us at the Westminster School in Adelaide. Thank you to everyone who joined and participated, including amputee athletes, buddies, Össur volunteers and supportive Össur friends and family, to create another successful Clinic.
The event raised a total of $3,000, which was donated to The Women's and Children’s Hospital Limb Deficiency Clinic in Adelaide.
Amputee athletes enjoyed the opportunity to build overall mobility skills under the guidance of renowned amputee physiotherapist, Cathy Howells, and our expert team of coaches including Brett Jones, Don Elgin and Shail Maharaj. Attending healthcare professionals had the opportunity to build upon their own knowledge and a hands on approach to learning techniques to improve clinical outcomes.
On day 2 of the program athletes had the opportunity to choose from an extensive list of recreational activities to improve their skills, including: Running Reprise, Mini Soccer, Golf, AFL, Basketball, Backyard Cricket as well as a 'How to use your micro-processor knee' session for transfemoral amputees and healthcare professionals. This provided athletes the opportunity to work on the areas they want to improve their mobility and confidence whilst having fun with other amputees. This year we were also joined by South Australian Golf Coach Anne-Marie Knight, who was a former professional golf member of the Ladies European Tour and Australian Ladies Professional Golf Tour.
At the conclusion of the event, a presentation ceremony was held where two deserving athletes received a Free Össur Running Foot. This year's running foot recipients went to Darcey Matheson and Andrew Skeer.
Over the course of the two-day event, improvements in mobility, balance, speed and confidence became evident amongst all participants.
