Helgi Sveinsson was a talented handball player and all-around athlete when he lost his leg above the knee in 1999 due to bone cancer. In 2011, he was introduced to the world of Paralympic sport and hasn't looked back since. Having only competed on an international level for a few brief years, he took the crowd by storm when he won a Gold medal in javelin at the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France.
Helgi uses the Cheetah Xtreme when competing and the SYMBIONIC LEG for daily activities. His golf prosthesis consists of the Vari-Flex and RHEO KNEE. Helgi is an avid golfer and could easily have chosen to go pro in that sport as well but athletics is where his heart is.
