Lahna, who was born with proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD), swam the requisite 3.8 km in the icy waters off Norway, then biked over five mountain passes through 180 km of rugged terrain on a course riddled with demanding climbs and break-neck descents. He then completed the course’s 42.2 km-run, including 1,700 vertical meters up “Zombie Hill,” through rocky, mountainous terrain, becoming the first amputee to reach the finish line, located at Mount Gaustatoppen’s summit, in the contest’s history.

Lahna’s competition time of 15:52:45 placed him 156th, ranking him among the elite finishers from an initial field of over 3,600 applicants and 260 selected competitors who vied for spots in the competition. Lahna was awarded the coveted black Norseman T-shirt for his extraordinary efforts.

A native of Casablanca, Morocco, Lahna wears Össur’s Flex-Run and adds the Norseman to his growing list of athletic accomplishments, including becoming the first disabled African athlete to swim across Gibraltar; finishing the Marathon des Sables in the Sahara Desert, and the first African paratriathlete to complete IRONMAN. A two-time Paralympian, he most recently won a Bronze medal in triathlon at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.

“We salute Mo for his many athletic achievements, including his completion of The Norseman. We are truly inspired by his tireless pursuit to live life without limitations, as he continually extends the boundaries not only with regard to prosthetic technologies but with the human body itself,” said Jon Sigurdsson, Össur’s President and CEO.
