On March 31, Össur and the Challenged Athletes Foundation® (CAF) put on the first Running and Mobility clinic of 2018 at Vanderbilt University’s Recreation & Wellness Center Field House. Thirty-one amputees attended with their families this weekend for an opportunity to improve their mobility and meet other amputees. These free clinics are intended to help amputees achieve their running and mobility goals–whether that’s learning to walk again or fine-tuning their sprinting skills. Össur staff and clinicians were also available to answer questions about our products and services. Free refreshments and lunch were provided by Smoothie King®, CAF’s global smoothie partner.

In collaboration with Bulow Orthotics and Prosthetic Solutions and CAF, we granted an Össur Cheetah® Xplore Junior running foot to nine-year-old Jesus Gonzalez, who was born without his right foot. Jesus had seen other kids wearing running prostheses before and wished for one of his very own. He is super determined and does not let anything slow him down!

Eric McElvenny, a Team CAF and Össur Ambassador is an accomplished elite triathlete and a role model who embodies life without limitations. Eric was a Marine Corps Infantry Officer who was a part of 3 deployments. In 2011, on his final tour in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, he was wounded after stepping on an IED. Eric underwent amputation of his right leg below the knee. From his hospital bed in Southern California, Eric set a goal to complete his first IRONMAN Triathlon, which became a reality in 2013. He has since completed 7 IRONMAN races to date, including Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.

In addition to ensuring that amputees have access to the best prosthetic technologies available, Össur has partnered with CAF for more than 20 years as CAF’s Global Prosthetics Sponsor providing opportunities to enhance their experience with their prosthesis through the Össur Running and Mobility Clinics presented by CAF.

Since 1971, we have been dedicated to developing technologies that help people pursue a ‘Life Without Limitations.’ Each year, hundreds of people with limb loss participate in Össur Running and Mobility Clinics presented by CAF across the U.S.

The Challenged Athletes Foundation is a world leader in creating access to sports and an active lifestyle for individuals with physical challenges, having raised over $93 million and provided grants for more than 18,000 challenged athletes worldwide since 1994.
