The last Össur Running and Mobility Clinic presented by the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) of 2017 happened on October 21 at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center.

The clinic kicked off with a surprise give presentation facilitated by Össur Ambassador and shark attack survivor, Mike Coots to five-year-old Oliver Wan who received an Össur Flex-Run Junior with Nike sole. Oliver, a resident from Hesperia, California was born with a vascular tumor and his family elected to amputate when he was 2-months-old to prevent the cancer from spreading. His new running leg will enable Oliver to stay physically active, run with ease, and keep pace with other kids his age. Notably, Oliver’s CP, John Narmontas of Active Life Inc. partnered with Össur to build Oliver’s new leg - the first Complete Leg by Össur Custom Solutions gifted at a clinic. Complete Legs are the product of Össur’s groundbreaking fabrication process that offers prosthetists an efficient way to produce a full, custom-fitted socket-to-foot Össur leg efficiently for their patients. The clinic was hosted in conjunction with CAF’s 24th annual Aspen Medical San Diego Triathlon Challenge (SDTC) on Sunday, October 22. SDTC celebrates and challenges adaptive and able-bodied athletes with a triathlon, 5K, a kid’s run and Tour de Cove (4.5-hour spin marathon) while helping to raise money for adaptive equipment, coaching, training, and competition expenses for challenged athletes around the world.

Among the attendees of the weekend’s events were Team Össur and Paralympic Bronze medalist, Mohamed Lahna, who rode in the Tour de Cove. Össur Ambassadors, Jami Marseilles (Up and Running) and Trace Wilson (Uniquely Me) who signed their respective books at the Össur Tech Tent. Dr. Mike Otoupalik was also on hand to give all SDTC athletes a soothing massage or stretch after their event. View pictures from SDTC here.
