Training HARD is not always the equivalent of training SMART! While training as an amputee, there are many factors to be considered when it comes to limb care. Just like you have to let the body recover, you also have to do the same with your risidual limb.

Something over looked often is proper skin hygiene on your residual limb. Veteran amputees practice it daily or at least should, but new amputees my not understand the importance of why it so important.

After an amputee has been fitted with a prosthesis, physical fitness, strength and conditioning are very important factors to ensuring their success. It’s great that we teach amputees proper form for walking and running, but many of them do not have the strength to perform these tasks.
